Because SEO Marketing really depends on third software like WordTracker to find out the volume of search term, or you can use Google Tends or Free Adwords Tools to find out the search volume of the keywords you are targeting for your SEO Marketing. All those are great tools to use, but it is only when you know the actual search volume of the search term, will you be able to find out the niche or market you are in, are there people searching online, and profitable to get into.

It is through using PPC for the search keywords, will you be able to find out what is the volume of the search term. Here’s how it is done…

First setup your landing page for the product or services you intend to promote, with your affiliate links or banners in the call to action button. Put in Google Analytics in the landing page. Load it up to your server.

Second is to create a new campaign for this project, you can use it on Google, Yahoo and MSN at the same time. I will prefer to find out the search volume of Google and Yahoo only, as they are the top two most popular search engines in the world. Although Yahoo users are far less than Google users, but most of the Yahoo users tend to be buyers than Google users.

Third is to use only exact, phrase and negative match keywords setting for this project, as broad match will incur a lot of un-targeted audiences. Remember to switch off content search and search partners as well, as you only want to know what is the volume of the search term in search engines.

Forth,now you have to decide do you intend to make any sales with this campaign, or just wants to know the search volume only. If you want to make sales from this project, make sure you put your PPC ads on the top 4 positions, so searchers will see your ads. If you do not intend to make money then place your ad at the 8th ~ 10th position, this way you will not incur a lot of clicks. In any case, always make sure that the landing page is nice looking and ready to collect sales as well, because you do not know when you have a buying searcher looking at your ad.

Lastly is to let this campign run for 2 weeks, the impression for the two weeks will tell you whether there are search volume for the search term. Another thing to note is that, if you are running a local services, make sure your ads show up on your country search only. If you are doing a world wide thing, then you may want to target U.S, Canada, Europe and Australia only, as they are the ones that buys online. Make sure they are from differnet ad groups too.

Then I remember what I did a few days ago.

I was thinking of changing the anchor text of the post to a different anchor text. It was previously directly to a squeeze page I created for the ultimate blogging theme, for lead generation marketing purposes. I decided to test something whether the changing of post content will actually decrease the ranking of the post, or it will remain the same ranking.

The answer is it will decrease in ranking. So it’s true from past discussion on this changing of content after Google has noted on the web page’s ranking, when you change the content or even the anchor text, Google will take it that it is not of the original post which they prefer.

Of course this can still be change if I continue to change the content again (that means drop in ranking, do I really want that?). This can be improve once there are incoming links pointing to the web page. Using off-page optimization will do the trick, to rise the ranking again. I will comment on this post to update of the outcome.

By the way, I am using this post to increase the exposure of ultimate blogging theme review post too. I have found out that by doing a great on-page optimization for review of products, you will be able to rank very well in the search engine. Of course, there will be other search engine marketing experts doing reviews as well, all you need to do is to find out how many links are pointing to the web page, and make sure you have at least twice as much links pointing to your web page too.

How do you find out, how many incoming links your competitor have? The one that I recommend using is Yahoo Site Explorer, here you can find out how many pages the websites have, inbound links, etc… Remember that you want to find out how many links are pointing to the web page, so copy the ULR of the web page and paste it on Yahoo Site Explorer.

Then use article submission to generate links back to the post, this will greatly help in optimization, as article submission is a way one link, which Google will take into account of trust rank. Try it, it is very effective, I intend to write a Ads Training review soon.

This is the part that is not fully controlled  by us, but by other websites or blogs that has good ‘Page Rank’,  and good reputation. If someone sees your website, then finds that it is very useful to his or her customers, they will put up a link to your website or blog, Which will help boost your ranking and trusting in your website or blog by a third party, this is what the big brother, Google likes. Of course there are other ways to do this off-page optimization, click on the link to read more.

I must say, of the above 4, off-page optimization is the one you should be focusing most on, as you are not in full control and your goal should always be driving traffic to your website. Because if you are competing with another same niche website or blog, if they have done the first 3 things where you also have done so, then you must compete with them in off-page.

The time to focus for me is 80% of my Internet Markting time, you can set it to higher, but I recommend no lower than 40% of your time, as you MUST REMEMBER, YOU ARE TO MAKET YOUR PRODUCT TO THE MARKET, so product creation and website creation or design is not that so important.

First of all, Google Page Rank is an indication of the importance of your web page in Google’s view. Remember that it’s page not the site that Google gives the ranking, so that gives us a clue that every page in your website or blog is ranked differently. When you have a Page Rank of 5, you will be able to draw in more traffic to your website than a related website that has page rank 3. How does Google rank your Page Rank then?

Trust Rank is like voting for you. The more votes you have from someone, the more Google trust you. As Google is growing from a nobody back in 1994, till now a multi billion dollar World No 1 search engine with cutting edge technologies, it still cannot go around the internet checking on every website and giving review, on what the page rank is. So they relied on the other website owner’s link back to you. With a one way single inbound link to a webpage or blog, it is telling Google that the website owner trust and recommend that the link is of value.

Relevance is counted in the Google Page Rank formula. A link from a related website or blog is taken to be more importance than a link from a unrelated website or blog. As this will mislead the searchers from what they want to search initially. Another thing to take note is sometimes you might want to link to a unrelated website or blog which is still ok, but not to those that have spamming background or with adult themes sites. This will really destroy your foundation of SEO.

Location of the link is of another importance. As I have previously shared that the text links that are place higher in the web page are taken to be more important. Usually when we go to a new webpage, it will show the top of the page first, then the searchers will slowly scroll down to read more, which is away form a human eye. That is why when you buy a text link from a directory, make sure that it is place on top, or at least in the body of the webpage, the same goes for sharing text links.

Context of the link is another important point, it is to be acted like a comment rather than “Meta Description” in the HTML coding. As Google likes website or blogs that is like writing to a friend. This also gives you a clue that why comment in the blog is what Google is looking for, if you have a blog, try to get as many comment as possible, this will increase your importance in Google Page Rank as well.

Anchor Text of the link that has a short description of what the webpage is about will actually help even more rather than a URL only. This is to help the searchers know what theme the webpage is going to be when they click on the link. And it is more natural in Google’s view as well.

As you can see that the above points are related to Google’s policy of Relevance in the web, if you are able to do the above 5 points as your fundamental SEO rules. You can be sure that your Page Rank will increase. You need to know that SEO takes time to grow, but thank God that it can be free too. Go ahead and try them.

Why then do online marketers use article marketing to drive traffic to their website?  There are four simple reasons: First is getting indexed by major servers, second is targeted traffic,  thirdly is to build your reputation on the internet as a expert in your niche and lastly to have a one way link back to your website.

Firstly, getting indexed nowadays is quite easily done, as long as some website or blog that has been indexed has a link back to your website, the web spider will crawl to your website and indexed on their server, of course article submission is one of the ways as well, as the search engine spiders always visit the article directories like at least twice a day.

Secondly for the targeted traffic, is that when you submit your article(s) to the article directories. Searchers there have a clear mind what they want to search. So they will key in the keywords related to their topic and search in the article directories, thus finding your article(s). Be mindful that searchers in the directories usually do not want to buy anything, their first intention is to get related information on the topic. So you have to have a very good sales copy on your website.

Thirdly for building your reputation online is very important in the internet, you are telling the whole world that you are an expert in a particular niche or service, that is why you are sharing your knowledge to the world, which will build trust also. Be mindful that if you are not very familiar with the niche you are in, you should get someone who is expert to share with you. The best place to to get that information for free is the library, I have been getting very good information from that place along, and can give you now ideas as well.

Lastly is building a one way link to your website, like I have shared before that major web servers like Google and Yahoo love one way links. Its because its telling Google and Yahoo that some websites voted your website as a informative and authoritative website, thus telling their browsers that they should be looking into your website for related information. Of course when you first started out, no one will be doing that unless they are your friends, so the next best thing will be one way back links from article directories.

For a new internet marketer, I will recommend that you write 2 different article for the one web page. Meaning you will have 2 back links to that particular web page. Do not submit the 2 articles to the same directory, as you will be getting traffic from one directory only. Remember to write good quality content of about 350 ~ 500 words for one article, and most importantly to have a resource box with your name. What are your expertise, an keyword anchor text (if possible) for the web page only, a short description on your niche with keywords in it.

After you have done the on-page and of- page optimization, what you should do is to link your websites or blogs to other related websites or blogs. This is what I call vertical traffic generation. Let’s take for example you have a website on “Ladies Bag”, you should be linking to related website like ladies shoes, ladies accessories, etc. Of course you must get them to link back to you as well.

Ok, you must be asking, how can I ask them to link to me when I do not know them? This is the difficult part of linking strategy. You have to email the owner of the website, stating you like to do a link exchange. You already have their link in one of your web page. Sometimes they might want you to anchor text the link instead, as anchor text tells the web spiders what the page is all about, and you should do the same too. Below is a draft email to the website owner:

Dear Website Owner,

My Name is XXXXX on behalf of Your www.Domain.com.

I have found your web site when searching for related link partners, and believe we are a good match. The site I am working on is www.YourDomain.com.

Now, you need to take note of whether the website owner did place the link on his website. For me I will give a week for the website owner to respond, then decide whether to take away the link to the website owner, if he did put the link on his website. You might have over hundreds of related website to exchange links, so you need to organize the link exchange on a excel spread sheet, helping you to remember and manage.

The other type of vertical traffic generation is submitting to directories, but to those that offer one way link is the best, and it will help you in generating traffic. If the directory wants a reciprocal link, do not submit to this directory, as it will dilute the traffic between you and the directory. Why then do we have to link to other related website with reciprocal link? It is because as the directory will draw a lot more traffic from your website rather than you getting more traffic from the directory.

For your new website to have a lot of traffic, you will have need to have a thousand links directing to you or link exchange. I would suggest that you invest one month to do the link exchange and submit to directories. I can say that you will have significant traffic increase if you done this. But of course this is quite a hard job to do, but your focus is always on driving traffic to your website 80% of your time.

Browsing keywords means that the searcher are looking around, they do not have a targeted focus things to look at. For example, if I want to buy a new laptop, but do not know which is the one for me,  I will search “laptop computers” and find out from the Google that I have 6,030,00 results. This may not be the a good thing if you are a small player on the internet. But browsing keyword, can still be use in SEO, not particularly in PPC, as you will only incur a lot of unwanted clicks and click through rates. Why SEO can still be use here, is that it is fr.e.e so you are able to still rank top 10, when you have more 10,000 pages or links pointing to the webpage with keyword “Laptop Computers”. For your info, the numbers might be even more as I did not do a research on the keyword.

Comparison keyword are people who have idea what they want, and may be comparing prices or the product specification, to show one’s needs. In this case, I will key in “sony laptop computers review” and find that there are 462,000 results. The person who types in the keywords is still looking around but has zoom down to a particular brand now. In PPC strategy, you can still use this keyword, but you need to let the searcher be able to compare the difference. So provide three (at least) different brands of laptop computer, with Sony brand in it. In SEO strategy, this will be like the sub-page of the browsing keywords, which will help in the long term.

Buying keywords are people who knows what they want, intending to buy online. For me, I will type in the brand and serial number of the laptop computer, for example, “Sony Vaio VGN-NS135E/L”. This is the type of keywords use in PPC strategy, it has the highest number of buyers and has lower number of unwanted clicks. For SEO, this is still a good strategy, as long as you are fast enough to perform on-page optimization and off-page optimization.

First you have to determine how many websites have the same keywords as you do. For this example, I will use the keyword “baby turtle care” on Google, then there are 340,000 websites have the keywords in them. Secondly is to type “allintitle:baby turtle care” in Google, which shows 331 websites.

What does the ‘allintitle’ mean? Why does it have a drop in numbers from 340,000 to 331? To explain ‘allintitle’ means the title tag of the websites, it tells Google to find all the websites that has “baby turtle care” in their title tag. So it really mean that you are looking for competition that has the same keywords in the title tag. This is important.

Third, you have to find out how many searchers are using this keywords. In order for us to do this, we have to go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal where you can find out how many searchers are there. It shows 2,400 searches in Nov 08, and the approximate average search volume is 2,400 as well. These are the global search result in Nov 08 for “baby turtle care”.

What the above exercise we are doing is to determine the search research for a particular keyword. If you do this, you will be able to direct traffic to your website. Of course this will not be enough, what you need to do next is how to get your web page to the top 10 searches.Then you will be able to get sales after generating traffic.

Let me summarize what we have learn:

1. Determine how many websites there are with the same keywords,
2. Determine how many websites have the same keywords in their title tag
3. Determine how many searchers finding the same keywords

We will pick an example of a niche in “How To Improve Running For Busy Working Adult”. I have checked that the above long tail keyword is not shown in Google Allintitle, which I must say surprising. So our niche here focus on running, focus on working adult and they are busy.

So what does this tell you about? That if anyone types in “Improve Running For Adult”, the web page shows up too. Why? Because Google will find the most relevant and nearest words which the searcher is searching, present it on search engine. But the above example does not show that there is people looking for the above keywords, which also mean if I am promoting an eBook on “Improve Running For Working Adults”, no one will buy as there is no searches.

Note that if there is no competition, it also mean no traffic and sales too, which is why we must know the searches for that particular keywords, before starting a website. All this can be improve by applying search engine optimization on your website, there is so much more to share with you more search engine optimization.

This off page optimization means to have back links directed to your website. Here are some ways that will get a back link:

1. Submit your website URL to major directories
2. Reciprocal Linking (two-way linking)
3. One way linking.

There are a lot free directories on the internet to submit links. All you need to do is to type “free directories” on Google and you can submit the link (eg. www.dmoz.org). The plan is to get as much back links to website as possible. So for me I would plan to submit about 5 each day for 30 days, this way you have multiple links that will direct to your website. For this I recommend that you use to direct to the home page.

For the reciprocal linking, this strategy is for you to link to other website that has the same topic or related ones. For this, you will need to put in their links first then send an email to them, telling them that you want to do a link exchange, and you have put their website link on the page. Of course you must take note whether they have put the links on their website. All you need to do is to record in a excel sheet of the link exchange.

For direct one way linking, it is basically submitting articles. One way linking is the best way, as Google wants someone to be a witness to your product, so they talk about it. So its also good if you could ask your customers to write some testimony about your product, link it back to your website. This is one way direct linking.

For the above things, if you could have build 1000 links in a month. You would have a very strong healthy incoming traffic. Of course there are other ways to direct traffic to your site.

Well, there is some basic things you need to know about SEO, I have shared briefly with you on the previously post, they are

1. On-Page Optimization, and
2. Off-Page Optimization.

For On-Page, you need to take note of few things:

• Page Name – The name of the web page must have the keywords.
• Title Tag – The title that will be shown on the top left hand side of the web page, in this case you will see “Search Engine Optimization – On Page Strategy”.
• Meta Keywords – Meta keyword tags are optional features, which the Website may include. The only purpose of these meta tags, since they do not even appear on the page, is to list the keywords most relevant to the Web page for better, more accurate search engine identification.
• Description Tags – A META tag that allows the designer to control provide a summary of the website content.
• H1 Tag -In HTML, the code used to define a page title or subhead.
• Body Content – This is where you need to have the keywords in the content of your web page, a good garage is no more than 5%  of the keyword in the content. That means out of 100 words there should be 5 keywords in the content.
• Alt Tags – These are used to give the brief explanation you see when you move your mouse over an image on a website. It means when you have an image in your web page, there is a name attached to it, in case the image do not show, it will show the alt tag instead.

For the above, the most important thing you need to do is to find out the primary keyword you are going to show on the web page, this way you will fully optimize the keywords. DO NOT keyword stuff more than 3 keywords in a web page, this is a major mistake that a beginner marketer makes.
