Using Google Trends To Find Out What The Market Is Looking For

By Cyrus Yung On March 17, 2009 Under Market Research

Thank God for Google, everything is free except for Google Adwords, where Google gets most of the revenue from. It was report that Google earn 98% along from Google Adwords, that means advertising along. That is a huge sum there! Because Google is a big player in the internet business, able to lock in any kind of market (because they have the 70% of the world using their search engine). How do you and I, a small little prawn in the huge ocean be able to be successful? By knowing what the market is looking for.

There are a few ways to do that, but today I will talk about using Google Trend only.

Google Trend was first introduced 15th May 2007, it can be used to compare between two or more different niche markets in charts, helping you to see the related news on the search terms, it will show you the top 10 countries and top 10 cities, and even the languages frequently used. As you can see from the picture below that the volume of each search term is different, and there is a huge rise in twitter searches. You are able to search on counties and time (weeks, months, years) for the search terms.

As you can see that the Google Trend starts in year 2004, as that was also the year that Google was listed in the stocks exchange. Another reason is that Google is a relatively new company, compare to Ford or General Electric which is over 50 years of age.

Google trend also has the hot trend (see below), where it will tell you the hottest search trend for today in U.S.A only. If you want to know the top 100  hot trend, click on ‘More Hot Trends’ and it will bring you to them.

As the hot trend shown are only for U.S market only, I have yet find out what is the hot trend for other countries yet. There is another thing you can find the trend is on websites. You can also compare websites and see their trend also. Well I have tried to find out the trend of Google.com, but it was not shown, obviously they do not want us to know their numbers.

Go explore Google Trend now, you will be able to find what the market is looking for now.

That is all for internet marketing strategy today, do comment or share if you have any new input. To your success, cheers!
