Keep Away From Black Hat Strategies!

By Cyrus Yung On February 10, 2009 Under Strategy

I will make this article short (I hope). As search engines around the world have grown into a very sophisticated system, the ‘Black Hat Strategies’ of old has evolved into a new different ways to fool the search engines that their websites or blogs are related to the search term, that will ultimately place the website at a top position for that particular search term.

This has pissed Google off, as Google’s policy of relevancy and transparency are the opposite of ‘Black Hat Internet’ marketing strategies. What are the usual (or old school) black hat strategies?

1. Keyword stuff tags: this is where a web master or designer will usually jam the web page with the one keyword. Example; <META name=”keywords” content=”seo consultant, seo consultant, seo consultant”>. This will increase the number of keyword appearing, deciving the spiders that the LSI of the keyword is “seo consultant”. See picture below.

2. Misusing of tiny text for repeating purposes: this works the same as the above as well.

3. Using of invisible text: this is interesting as you would ask, how can I use text for this post? Well it is quite simple. All you need to do is to change the colour of the text to the background colour, and a human eye will not be able to tell the difference. But the search engine spiders will be able to detect what you have done. A human can see the invisible by highlighting the invisible text, see below pictures.

There are a lot more of ‘Black Hat Strategies’ which I do not want to share as it will defocus you and lead you to a bad reputation for the search engines.

Another question you might pop up now is that, what does the ‘Black Hat Strategies’ do that has cause so many web masters and designers do this and still continue to use it? All this started when some web master realised that by doing the above and other ‘Black Hat Strategies’, will drive traffic to their website in a short period of time. Whereas, when you use a “White Hat Strategies”, I must confuse that it is actually slowly.

BUT, after a few weeks or months, the search engines will realised that you (Black Hat Strategies user) are deceiving the searchers and the search engines, they will even bar you from their search engines. That is what Google will do. But ‘White Hat Strategies’ will continue to grow and become better, just like wine the longer the better. This is what you should be aiming for.

As of last year, the 70% of the global searchers uses Google Search Engine. This tells you in the long run you will be in a lost, and that Google might even want to ban all your other websites (in the same hosting), all because you have a website that uses ‘Black Hat Strategies’. It is just not worth it.

That will be all for my sharing on internet marketing strategy. If you have anything (please do not comment on the other ‘Black Hat Strategies’, sharing what they are) to share, please feel free to comment below. If this information is useful to you, please share with your friends or submit to ‘StumbleUpon’. Wish you success in internet marketing!

Though these strategies may appeal to those who are looking for immediate results, it should be remembered that these things arent suggested and are not ethical.
